The east side: Road to Hana wall art. Honomanū Bay's black sand beach sits at the foot of the Koʻolau Gap, where the Honomanū Valley carves its way down from the rim of Haleakalā. Two prints in this collection come from that morning — the bay itself and the valley above it — and together they make the case that the Road to Hana is less a drive than a pilgrimage. Further along, a roadside waterfall spills through the rainforest the way a hundred guidebooks promise and only a few pull-offs actually deliver.
The west side: Dragon's Teeth and Oneloa. At Makaluapuna Point, wind and salt spray have chewed the lava into jagged rows the locals call the Dragon's Teeth. We shot the trail entrance in daylight and came back for the teeth themselves at sunrise, when the first light catches every serrated edge. Minutes away, Oneloa Beach gave us something you can't plan: a full rainbow, anchored in the sand. Some photographs you earn. Some you're simply handed.
The summit: Haleakalā at sunset. Ten thousand feet up, above the clouds, the "House of the Sun" ends the day the way it's ended it for a million years — in bands of fire and violet that make the crowd at the summit go quiet. That hush is what this print is for.
